Evolution of Young Adult Literature

Have you been watching The Great American Read on PBS? It's a TV series "that explores and celebrates the power of reading, told through the prism of America's 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey)" (see this).

I love it because celebrating reading is my jam, of course! But related to the series are some video shorts from PBS Digital Studios, including this gem:



It's a quick (just under six minutes) overview of how "young adult literature" as a category came to be. If you teach adolescents, serve as their librarian, parent them, know them, or enjoy reading books marketed to them, then you should take a few minutes to view the video.
